How we evaluate pergolas.
Our goal is to help a buyer narrow a high-ticket decision without pretending the evidence is more complete than it is. Fit and evidence are treated separately.
Fit score
Fit measures how closely a pergola matches the user’s stated needs. Hard compatibility constraints are handled before preference scoring whenever the data supports them. A pergola that does not fit the requested space or mounting approach should not win because it has more features.
- Space and nominal/actual dimensions.
- Budget and current observed price when available.
- Roof preference and operation type.
- Mounting and installation compatibility.
- Weather evidence when the user says it matters.
Evidence confidence
Evidence confidence measures how well the recommendation is supported by current sources. It is deliberately separate from fit. A product can look like a good match while still having weak documentation, and we want that uncertainty to remain visible.
Missing and conflicting data
Unknown values remain unknown. We do not use zero as a placeholder for a missing dimension, load rating, price, or installation value. When two acceptable sources conflict, the product is flagged for review instead of silently selecting the more favorable claim.
Affiliate commissions do not change ranking
A merchant may pay us a commission if a user buys through an eligible link. That commercial relationship is not an input to the recommendation score. Products can remain in the catalog without an affiliate relationship, and an affiliate product does not receive a ranking boost because it pays a higher commission.
What this methodology does not do
MyPergolaMatch is a buying-research tool, not a structural engineering, permitting, installation, or legal service. Site-specific conditions and local requirements can be more restrictive than product documentation. Buyers should verify those requirements before ordering or installing a structure.
